an intimate garden wedding

There are no words for this wedding. For how perfect, simple, lovely, wonderful, full of life and love it was. K+O live in New York, and have been riding out this virus here in Texas. When Kathryn and I FaceTimed and she explained her vision I KNEW we were the perfect match. I got off the phone and did a happy dance around my office ha! ⁣

Surrounded by eleven ppl, they promised forever in front of a garden fountain. They celebrated with a dinner under lantern lights with the most stunning table setting filled with candles and flowers. It was the most simple, romantic, garden party, and the kindness and love they showed me will stick with me forever.⁣

More to come from this sweet day, but for now enjoy the pure joy in Kathryns face. I love you two. Thank you for asking me to shoot your day, it was one of the biggest honors of my career.

From Kathryn’s POV:

“In early May Oliver proposed and we then set out to move to Austin. We had been talking about getting married for few months before all this and in NYC we lived right by the Courthouse so we always assumed we would go to the courthouse, get hitched, and then celebrate with a dinner and maybe have a party with friends later but we never wanted a big wedding.

We talked about what our new plan would be, agreeing that we didn’t want to wait for COVID to be over, since that could be years out (and who knows what ‘COVID being over’ actually means). We didn’t want our lives to be indefinitely on pause due to something entirely out of our control. *Cue the wedding bells*

Also when thinking about a date and how that date would become our anniversary for the rest of our lives we didn’t want to pick a time solely based on when the weather might be nice so we went with August 9th - the day we crossed paths in NYC.

We decided that we would rent a ranch house near Lake Travis (outside Austin) and invite just our immediate family and a few friends who were already in Texas. We’d have a long weekend at the ranch and spend some time out on the water. We wanted to give everyone a break and something to look forward too, especially because all our families had been locked down for several months of quarantine, some had lost their jobs, and no one is traveling and taking a vacation this year.

We hope in a year from now we can have an anniversary party with all the people who couldn’t be there to join us but, since the future in so unpredictable, we’re not holding ourselves to that.

We really wanted everyone to relax and have fun while surrounded by nature and beauty. All of us have been through a lot over the last 6 months and we wanted to give everyone a reason to dress up and enjoy and celebrate the time we have together. “

We’re not very traditional people so there weren’t any traditions we had to incorporate.
Oliver did ask his uncle for advice on the wedding and his uncle said, “Over my 63 years, I’ve learned that what makes the best weddings are when you 1) Don’t get too drunk, 2) have a string quartet, and 3) don’t forget God.” We weren’t really sure what to do with that though but we did our best.

Well we got married outdoors in August in Texas, so comfort was key. We wanted to get dressed up but also wanted everyone to be comfortable and we did’t want anyone to feel like they had to buy something.
I wore a loose fitted gown by Kamperrett that was simple, comfortable and elegant and very much in line with my everyday style. At the last minute I decided to wear a veil which was unexpected but I thought when else would I ever wear something that is so princessy?! I’m glad I did too because it was so much fun! Oliver wore a dark green suit, black cowboy boots with matching belt and no tie. So overall we were causal but still elegant.

Have a big party later and keep the ceremony small. Keeping things small allowed us to really involve our family in this moment which really meant something to us all. I gave everyone a job to do on the day of the ceremony to help and it really made the wedding a communal experience that everyone got to participate in. At first I was worried that everyone would feel burdened by this but I saw that everyone ended up feeling more connected to this moment which made it all the more special.
